Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me. –   Matthew 25:40

It is a fundamental Christian belief that all that we have - our lives, time, talent, and material resources - are a gracious gift from God, and that our faithful response to God can be measured by how we manage those gifts.  We affirm this basic belief each Sunday morning when we sing the words:  "Praise God; from whom all blessings flow..."

It is not enough, however, for us just to say that we believe those things.  We know that if we don't act on that belief, we find ourselves owned and controlled by the gift, rather than being faithful people using the gift for the benefit of God's Kingdom

The temptation to become enslaved to our material resources, especially money, is awesome.  Faithful Christians have most successfully avoided that temptation by being free enough - loving enough - to give away a part of that which has been given to them.

To act in such a way is to totally let go of control of a part of what has been given to us so that it might work as it will in the world for the good of God's people.  This is only possible when the giving of this gift is a top priority – indeed, a value – in our lives.  Jesus reminds us quite forcefully that "…Where your treasure is, there your heart will also be." (Mt. 6:21)

This year, you are invited to “Plug in to Saint George’s 4G Network: Grace, Gratitude, Generosity, & God.”  For four Sundays beginning October 25th, the sermon will be based on one of the 4G’s, ending on Harvest Sunday, November 15th.

Please prayerfully consider your financial pledge to St. George and use this booklet to reflect and write down how Grace, Gratitude, Generosity, and God is manifested in your life in the coming weeks. I believe you will discover the truth about grateful giving: That it is only in giving that we receive.
